Explore a great family fun park in Pooraka on South Terrace that stretches behind Pooraka Primary School and around to Main North Road.

Unity Park is so named to encourage harmony within the community. With that in mind, it makes sense that the park has something for everyone – and their dog! The park is mostly flat and wheelchair friendly. Approach from South Terrace to access the carpark.

On your arrival, you’ll see wide open grassy areas around a man-made lake complete with water features. This opens out into a lagoon and leisurely trails weave through an array of native bushes, flowers, and trees. Walkers will enjoy the quiet respite of these trails and visiting wildlife from the nearby wetlands.

Like so many of Salisbury’s parks, Unity Park is eco-friendly in its operation utilising bore water in its lake and serves as a location for biofiltration of stormwater. Around the park you will see filtration pipes, water tanks and split-level water troughs that aid in the straining of the water through vegetation, mud, and other media before being collected in a recovery pipe.

When you reach the Main North Road side of the park, you will notice the sculpture, Winds of Change, an art piece that commemorates the history of the South Australian Meat Corporation’s Gepps Cross abattoirs and saleyards that originally stood opposite the park on the other side of Main North Road.

Activities and play equipment

Kids have the option of two separate playground equipment sets with climbs, poles and the customary slide and swings. Covered picnic benches within the playground area serve as a comfortable rest stop where parents can easily keep watch. Just beyond the fence surrounding the playground, there are also barbecue facilities.

Dogs will be pleased as they are catered to with an off-leash fenced dog park, so they too will have plenty of room to run about and enjoy some sun with other doggy pals.

The more active will appreciate the fitness equipment, which includes a variety of bars and benches, and the Unity Park Skate Facility has an impressive circuit of ramps, rails, boxes, slopes and quadrangles to delight skating enthusiasts.

If that’s not enough, Unity Park is also home to The Cross Keys BMX Club and their ramps, dirt jumps and sharp bends will challenge any rider’s skills.
