Bigger, better and award-winning, the St Kilda Adventure Playground is one of a kind.
The playground offers many attractions including a huge castle with slides and a draw bridge, a bouncy boomerang, flying fox, pirate ship, a large Volcano with multiple slides, a basketball court, swings and more.
For a real adventure, you can’t go wrong with the St Kilda Adventure Playground. It’s just ten minutes’ drive from the Salisbury centre, or 45 minutes from the Adelaide CBD. Since its inception, it has become a well-loved destination for adults and kids alike. In 2022, the playground will celebrate its 40th year.
What sets this playground apart from others is its sheer size and the elaborate design of its equipment. The playground occupies four hectares by the seafront with giant features to impress and entertain even the most energetic and curious of kids.
Want to feel on top of the world? Try the huge three-level castle complete with spiraling slides and fire poles, or scramble up the Volcano with its magnificent views and long lava slides erupting over the sides. Feel like casting an eye out to sea? Hop on board the Pirate Ship atop the banks of the Barker Inlet and see if you can spot a dolphin.
Perhaps you want that flying feeling? Give the flying foxes a whirl, or have a jump on the bouncy boomerang for something a little different. There’s even a basketball court if you’d like to shoot a few hoops with your friends.
If this is all a bit much for the younger ones, don’t worry, there’s the more traditional Yellow Submarine playground, and a variety of unique swings. Electric barbeques and shaded areas are also available for everyone to picnic with friends, and the large grassy areas provide a great spot to throw a frisbee or ball around.
Enter through the Cockle Street entrance for the convenient car park where toilet facilities are also available. Please note that dogs aren’t allowed in the playground areas, but there is the nearby lawned reserve and foreshore for dog owners to enjoy with their four-legged friends.

History of the St Kilda Playground
Originally an initiative of the Lions Club of Salisbury in the 1970s, the playground’s construction was made possible through club fundraising, council contributions, and labour provided through government employment schemes. It was opened on 24 October 1982 by Salisbury’s major, Ron White, and has been carefully maintained and upgraded over the years.
In particular, the playground saw a major overhaul in 2016 costing $3.5 million, which also saw the installation of new attractions, extra slides, electric barbeques, the basketball court, and a makeover of the Cockle Street entrance.
