Located at Pooraka Farm Community Center, Place of Calm represents a site of reconciliation and harmony.
Title of Artwork: Place of Calm
Artists: Marra Dreaming
Form: Totem Poles
Commissioned by: City of Salisbury
Year of Completion: 2016
Rationale:
Located at Montague Farm, the artwork displays a site of reconciliation and harmony. The symbols on the poles are meeting places to represent the importance of places for the community to meet, learn and share their culture with others.
With both the land and the water being of major significance to all Indigenous people surviving off the land for thousands of years, we wanted to incorporate both of these elements.
The sea and land animals represent the connection Aboriginal people have with their land. The specific colours and techniques are portrayed in a contemporary style with traditional designs and symbols.
