Orange Groves
By the 1860s Salisbury was growing over ten varieties oranges commercially, along with some lemons and grapefruit. The oranges were exported interstate and overseas to New Zealand and Europe. 100 years later in the 1960s, the orchards had given way to market gardens and new European settlers brought their skills growing standard crops as well as crops that were an essential part of their food culture. strong>Photographs courtesy of the Salisbury District Historical Society.
